AUGUSTA — Dr. Karen Bossie, of Waterville Women’s Care, was cleared of a medical malpractice allegation Thursday after six-day trial in Kennebec County Superior Court.

Danielle Wentworth, of Benton, had filed a civil lawsuit against Bossie on behalf of her daughter, who was born five years ago at MaineGeneral Medical Center.

Wentworth’s attorney, Celine Boyle, argued to jurors Friday that Bossie had used too much traction in the delivery, which resulted in the girl suffering an injury to the network of nerves that control one arm.

Christopher Nyhan, Bossie’s attorney, told jurors that Bossie acted properly to deliver the baby during an obstetrical emergency. He said Bossie had performed 1,500 deliveries by that time in her career.

“She knew what she was doing,” Nyhan said.

The 8-0 verdict that cleared Bossie of negligence was in line with the result of a three-member medical malpractice screening panel, which also unanimously cleared Bossie.
