DERRY, N.H. — New Hampshire’s largest utility estimates 50,000 residential customers from a base of 500,000 have switched to other power suppliers because of low natural gas prices.
Public Service of New Hampshire says that’s currently enabled startup companies to supply power more cheaply. However, those customers still rely on PSNH to restore power when it goes out and pay for that service.
The Eagle-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/ZffTQE) Maine-based ENH Power has picked up 54,000 customers from New Hampshire utilities, primarily PSNH, since last summer.
The state Public Utilities Commission lists 14 competitive electric power suppliers on its website.
A PSNH spokesman says there’s the potential for fluctuations in natural gas prices. He estimates $42.5 million in savings for PSNH customers because of its power plants in the first quarter of this year.
