AUBURN — Officials say a body found in the Androscoggin River is believed to be that of an Auburn man who had been missing for a month.
Police say 46-year-old Dan Doherty went missing the night of April 4, leaving his car, jacket and personal items near a bridge crossing the river.
Auburn Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that the body was taken to the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification. The cause of death has not been determined.
A friend told the newspaper that Doherty was distraught when he called her the night he disappeared.
