PORTLAND — The Maine Green Independent Party is holding its annual convention in Belfast.
Greens are convening Sunday at the Belfast Free Library. The keynote speaker in Dr. Jill Stein, the 2012 Green Party candidate for president. Pat LaMarche, a two-time candidate for Maine governor and the 2004 Green Party nominee for vice president, also will speak.
David Slagger, who was the first representative of the Maliseet Indian tribe to the Legislature when he took office in January 2011, is also speaking during the convention. Slagger, of Kenduskeag, is the first announced candidate for the Green Independent Party’s nomination for governor in next year’s elections.
Sunday’s convention will focus on building the Green political movement.
