AUGUSTA — The Board of Education is scheduled to meet Wednesday to consider a policy on public concerns and complaints and consider staff changes.

The board is conducting a major review of its policy manual, and adding or replacing policies as they go.

Board members are scheduled to consider approving a new policy, on public concerns and complaints, during their meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at Augusta City Center.

The policy generally states that complaints from parents, students, and other citizens should be resolved at the lowest possible level. If the complaint can’t be resolved at that level, the person making the complaint could appeal the issue to the next level, such as to a principal.

Ultimately, the person making the complaint can ask that the matter be put on the Board of Education agenda. The board chairman or the superintendent would determine whether to place the matter on an agenda.

Board members also are scheduled to consider numerous staff moves, including winter coaching nominations and the nomination of several teachers on probationary contracts to receive continuing contracts. The board also will consider new hires Brittany O’Brien to teach kindergarten at Hussey Elementary School and Danielle Doyon as school nurse for Lincoln Elementary School, and the resignation of Hussey Elementary School Principal Michelle Michaud, who said in her resignation letter she wants to return to guidance counseling. Her resignation is effective June 30.

Board members also are scheduled to hear a presentation on the winners of a cPort Credit Union scholarship program and meet in a closed-door session for labor negotiations.
