LYMAN — Maine State Police say a 4-year-old girl was killed in a crash Monday night on Walker Road in which her mother was driving and speed was likely a factor.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state police, identified the victim as Venna Cline of Lyman, who turned 4 on Feb. 14. She was riding in a sport utility vehicle driven by her mother, Tonya Cline, 32.

McCausland said the girl’s sister, 16-year-old Carissa Cline, was also a passenger in the vehicle. She and her mother suffered minor injuries.

According to police, the SUV was a short distance from the family’s home on Walker Road when it went out of control and hit a tree. Police did not say how fast it was going.

A team of state troopers has been assigned to investigate the single-car accident, which was reported around 7:30 p.m.
