AUGUSTA — An Augusta woman received a four-year suspended sentence for embezzling $50,575 from a Hallowell-based lawyer between July 2007 and October 2008.

Carmen P. Robillard, 41, formerly of Albion and now of Augusta, had pleaded guilty in June 2009 to theft by unauthorized taking.

Details about the case were listed in a now-closed civil complaint, also in Kennebec County Superior Court.

Robillard had been accused of writing a series of unauthorized checks to herself on an account belonging to Augur & Associates, a law and lobbying firm in Hallowell, and Newell A. Augur III, president and sole shareholder.

Robillard provided bookkeeping services for the firm.

The civil complaint said the money paid for hunting trips to Africa and Australia for her husband.

Robillard’s sentence in the criminal case calls for restitution of $50,575. Assistant District Attorney Joelle Pratt said $29,572 already has been repaid.

An agreement in 2009 called for Robillard to spend six months of the four-year sentence behind bars if all the money had not been repaid at the time of sentencing.

However, a judge on Tuesday suspended the entire four-year term, citing Robillard’s medical problems. The sentencing had been postponed numerous times because Robillard was hospitalized or undergoing medical treatment.

Robillard also was placed on probation for two years.

A number of other people were sentenced in separate hearings Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court:

• Terrence Boone, 36, of Farmingdale, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and criminal forfeiture of $1,290 and a firearm, all Jan. 4 in Farmingdale; two-year jail sentence, all but 90 days suspended, two years’ probation; $400 fine, $220 restitution.
