AUGUSTA — Messalonskee senior Jai Aslam is back. So are Waterville juniors Colleen O’Donnell and Olivia Lopes. Hall-Dale senior Spencer Shagoury and Winthrop senior Amber Pritchard are also making a second consecutive trip to the Round of 48 at the state singles tennis tournament.

The qualifying rounds were held Tuesday across the state and several central Maine players advanced to the Round of 48, which is scheduled May 25.

Aslam defeated Lucas Burstein of Camden Hills 8-0 in the first round at the Buker Courts before he toppled Cony’s Chase Whittier 6-1, 6-1 in the qualifying round.

O’Donnell, who drew the third seed, defeated Katherine Waters of Oceanside in the qualifying round, 6-0, 6-0. Lopes, the No. 6 seed, beat Leah Solloway of Brunswick 8-1 and then Celie Deagle of Skowhegan, 6-0, 6-0 in the Region 3 tournament. Tiffany Suchanek (Waterville) and Dallas Clark (Cony) also advanced out of Region 3.

In Region 4, which Bates College in Lewiston hosted, Shagoury cruised past Janik Hosfeld of Mountain Valley, 6-2, 6-2.

Kelby Mace of Maranacook, Aaron St. Pierre of Winthrop, Derek Vigue of Hall-Dale, and Dylan Price of Madison also advanced to the Round of 48.

Lewiston High School hosted the Region 4 girls qualifying tournament.

Pritchard edged Meaghan McDonough of Edward Little, 7-5, 6-2, to reach the Round of 48 again.

Mt. Blue had a pair of players — Mackenzie Conlogue and Savannah Swain — advance as well.

Softball

Richmond 5, Sacopee Valley 1: Behind a two-hitter from Jamie Plummer, the Class D Bobcats beat the Class C Hawks in Richmond.

Plummer struck out two and didn’t walk a batter for Richmond (9-0). Noell Acord singled three times for the Bobcats. Brianna Snedeker added two singles and two RBIs, while Ciarra Lancaster and Kelsie Obi each singled twice and drove in a run.

Bailey Marden and Dakota Miner each singled for Sacopee Valley (3-8).

Baseball

Sacopee Valley 11, Richmond 0, 6 innings: The Hawks collected 19 hits en route to the non-conference win in Richmond. Kyle Jordan led the winning attack with a triple and a single while Nick York and Roderick Maynard added two hits apiece. Sacopee is 4-7, Richmond is 4-4.

College baseball

Maine 9, Boston College 7: Shane Bussey had three hits, including his first career home run, to lead the Black Bears to the win in Chesnut Hill, Mass. Fran Whitten and Colin Gay added two hits apiece for Maine (32-19) while Jake Marks went six innings for the pitching win. Boston College is 11-28.

USM awards

GORHAM — Messalonskee graduate and University of Southern Maine freshman Sam Dexter was named Little East Conference Rookie of the Year on Tuesday as the Huskies dominated LEC post-season awards.

USM senior Tucker White was named co-player of the year while teammate Logan Carman was named pitcher of the year. All three were first team selctions along with catcher Matt Verrier, first baseman John Carey, third baseman and Erskine grad Nick Grady and outfielder and Gardiner graduate Forrest Chadwick.
