SKOWHEGAN — Police are investigating a possible link between a home invasion robbery Sunday morning and smash-and-grab burglary that happened about 30 minutes later.

Deputy Police Chief Dan Summers said two people were sitting in their garage “just hanging out” on Hanover Street about 3:30 a.m. when a man wearing a mask attacked them with a pipe, hitting each in the head. The robber took cash from one person and escaped.

The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. A state police tracking dog was sent to assist in the search, but no one was found.

During that investigation, a glass entry door at Stony Brook Market on U.S. Route 2 in Skowhegan was reported smashed and cartons of cigarettes were stolen, according to Summers. He said police are looking for a connection between the two incidents.

Surveillance video from the store showed a purple PT Cruiser leaving the scene. Police later found the car abandoned in a cemetery on North Avenue.
