LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Colby College women’s 1,600-meter relay team of Emily Doyle, Frances Onyilagha, Emily Tolman and Brittney Bell finished second at the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday evening.

Colby’s team finished in a school-record time of 3 minutes, 44.74 seconds.

It was the fifth time this season the team has broken the school-record and was five seconds faster than they ran at the Open New England Championships.

The University of Wisconsin La Crosse team won the race in a time of 3:43.52.

Doyle ran the finish leg of the race for Colby, which ran a 3:46.13 in the prelims Friday to qualify for nationals.

Onyilagha moved into third-place after about 200 meters on the second leg and Tolman moved into second during her leg before St. Thomas took back second place on the handoff. Bell passed the St. Thomas runner on the anchor leg, but could not catch La Crosse runner Claire Elliott.

Colby will receive all-American honors for its second-place finish.

Also for Colby, Abbott Matthews finished 18th in the hammer throw on Friday night.

Matthews had a throw of 162 feet, 4 inches on her second of three throws.
