My 8-year-old granddaughter talked her dad into getting a non-commercial lobster license.
She painted her buoys pink and tan — her choice of colors. She goes out with her dad to check the traps near Rockport harbor. She is allowed five traps but only has three.
Someone has been raiding her traps, taking anything she caught and leaving the doors open and tying another of her buoys together to the Rockport pier.
How do I explain to an 8-year-old that some people just enjoy causing pain to others when I don’t understand myself? We try to teach our children ethics when others don’t have any.
I realize the world isn’t fair, but I don’t believe anyone has the right to crush the hopes of a child.
