AUGUSTA — Wildlife officials are encouraging Mainers to get out their rods and reels for a weekend of free fishing.
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says anybody can fish on Maine’s waterways without a license on Saturday and Sunday, except those who have had their license suspended or revoked.
Officials say this weekend is a good time for people to try their hand at the sport for the first time.
Commissioner Chandler Woodcock says fishing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, with opportunities available on nearly 6,000 lakes and ponds and more than 30,000 miles of rivers and streams. The department also offers a free-fishing weekend in February.
