AUBURN — A Livermore woman authorities say stole nearly $25,000 in welfare benefits to which she was not entitled has pleaded guilty.

Tiki Thomas was sentenced to serve five months of a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty

Monday to multiple counts of aggravated forgery and theft by deception. She was also ordered to pay full restitution to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

The Sun Journal reports that the judge allowed the 35-year-old Thomas to start serving her sentence June 28 to give her time to arrange care for her children.

Authorities say Thomas obtained state and federal benefits over a four-year period by saying she wasn’t getting child support when she really was, or that she was working in a low-paying job.
