NEWPORT — Becky Orcutt and Sara Packard combined to allow one run on seven hits as fifth-seeded Nokomis defeated No. 12 Belfast, 4-1, in an Eastern B preliminary round softball game Tuesday afternoon.

Orcutt pitched the first 22⁄3 innings before having to leave after taking a line drive off her pitching hand. Packard threw the final 41⁄3 innings. She struck out four and did not allow a run.

Taylor Lovley had two singles for the Warriors (11-6), who will play at No. 4 Hermon at 3 p.m., Thursday.

Ashley Littlefield singled twice for Belfast (7-10).

No. 9 Medomak Valley 9, No. 8 MCI 0: Medomak scored nine runs in the final three innings to snap a scoreless game and cruise to the Eastern B prelim round victory.

Bridget Miller led the Panthers with a two-run home run. Heidi Obuchon had a triple and a single for Medomak (11-6) as well.

Victoria Drake had two singles to lead MCI (9-8).

Baseball

No. 7 Madison 10, No. 10 Mt. Abram 4: Derek Leblanc and K.P. Carpenter each had a pair of hits as the Bulldogs advanced to the Western C quarterfinals with the win on Tuesday.

Madison, now 8-9, will play at No. 2 St. Dominic (14-2) at 3 p.m. Thursday. Mt. Abram ends the season at 5-11.

Leblanc scored a pair of runs of drove in two for the Bulldogs. Carpenter also drove in two runs.
Jay Chenard, Arthur Ryan and Johnny Hart each had two hits for the Roadrunners.
