MADISON — Emily McKenney pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts as No. 1 Madison defeated eighth-seeded Mt. Abram 8-1 in a Western C softball quarterfinal Thursday afternoon.

McKenney, Sierra LeBlanc, and Samantha Bruce each had two hits for Madison (17-0), which will host No. 4 Winthrop Saturday in the semifinals. Erika Parker added a two-run single.

Serena Lariviere singled twice for Mt. Abram (6-11).

Eastern A

Brewer 23, Erskine 2: Emily Gilmore doubled and tripled to lead the top-seeded Witches in Brewer.
Lindsay Houp had four singles for Brewer (16-1), which broke open the game with a 15-run second inning.

Allison Gaudin had a single and two RBIs to lead No. 8 Erskine (9-9). Avery Bond also doubled for the Eagles.

Eastern B

Old Town 4, Winslow 0: Kendra Hayward pitched a one-hitter to lead the defending Class B state champs to the quarterfinal win. Hayward struck out 13 and didn’t issue a walk as the No. 2 Coyotes ran their record to 16-1. She allowed just a third-inning bloop single to Winslow’s Liz Pullen.

Meaghan Leighton drove in thre runs for the winners. Old Town faces Oceanside in the senifinals on Saturday while No. 7 winslow finishes at 11-7.

Western C

Dirigo 12, Carrabec 0, 5 innings: The second-ranked Cougars scored 11 runs over two innings to take the Western C quarterfinal game in Dixfield.

Dirigo (12-5) scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to break up a scoreless game. The Cougars tacked on six runs in the next inning. Natasha DeRoche homered for Dirigo.

Brooklynne Lewis and Paige Chadbourne each had a double for No. 7 Carrabec (6-10).
