MONMOUTH — Monmouth Academy has announced the top 10 students in the class of 2013.

Adriana Ortiz-Burnham, daughter of Dori Burnham and Adrian Ortiz Martinez, is class valedictorian. She was president of the National Honor Society, co-president of the Civil Rights Team, Student Council Secretary and the Regional School Unit 2 Student Representative. She was a member of the Theater Arts Association, Key Club, Envirothon Team and Academic Decathlon. She also served as a teacher’s assistant, volunteered at the Monmouth Vestry, community suppers, The Theater at Monmouth and participated in dance. Ortiz-Burnham plans to attend Middlebury College and major in international politics and economics and minor in global health.

Danielle Bumann, daughter of Martin Bumann and Barbara Violette, is class salutatorian. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Outing Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Math Team, Yearbook and Drama Club. She was assistant stage manager for drama productions, was chosen as a class marshal, Key Club president and captain of varsity soccer, varsity basketball and the track and field teams. Bumann plans to attend Emmanuel College to study psychology.

Melissa Brassard, daughter of Lisa Gauthier and James Brassard, is ranked third. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, secretary of Future Business Leaders of America and Student Council president. She was selected as a representative of the Mountain Valley Conference and chosen as a class marshal. She also participated in varsity soccer, varsity basketball and track and field. Brassard plans to attend the University of New England and major in nursing.

Hayden Koller, son of Greg and Sheri Koller, is ranked fourth. Koller was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Academic Decathlon and Destination Imagination. He was also a teacher’s assistant and trained in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai martial arts. Koller plans to attend the University of Maine Orono, College of Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Zachary M. Allen, son of Thomas G. and Barbara A. Allen, is ranked fifth. Allen was a member and historian of the National Honor Society. He participated in band and chorus and was active on the Math, Envirothon and Civil Rights teams. He was also a teacher’s assistant and a member of the Fire Department. Allen plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology and major in electrical engineering.

Kara Rowley, daughter of Michelle and William Rowley, is ranked sixth. Rowley was a member and vice president of the National Honor Society and co-president of the Civil Rights Team. She was on the Envirothon Team, was head sound technician for plays and participated in band, chorus, drama, Choralites and Destination Imagination. She is also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered for the Monmouth Vestry, Tree Street Youth and Monmouth community suppers. Rowley plans to attend Mount Holyoke College with a major in international relations.

Sara Caruso, daughter of Michael and Janice Caruso, is ranked seventh. She participated in Chorus, Choralites, Drama Club, Art Club and Yearbook and she was a member of the Tennis Team. Sara plans to attend the University of Southern Maine and major in humanities, specifically English secondary education.

Devin West, son of Doug and Rhonda West, is ranked eighth. West was a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He is a volunteer firefighter and enjoys hunting and fishing. He plans to attend Husson University, majoring in criminal justice and psychology. He will participate in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Husson University and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army upon graduation.

Daisi Poole, daughter of Kent and Cindy Poole, is ranked ninth. She was senior class president and a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Key Club. She was also a peer helper and participated in football, varsity basketball and varsity softball. Poole plans to attend Vermont Technical College and major in veterinary technology.

Brianna Hicks, daughter of Lisa Hicks and Terry Christopherson, is ranked 10th. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club and Key Club and she participated in varsity softball and basketball. Hicks plans to attend the University of Southern Maine with an undeclared major.
