GARDINER — Stella Skidgel of Gardiner recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at her home.

Skidgel was born in Washburn on May 28, 1913, to Sandy and Temperance Towers. She was married to Shepherd Skidgel in 1926. Together, they raised seven children. They moved to Augusta in 1953 and she worked for many years at the Augusta Mental Health Institute. They were married for 65 years until his death in 1991. After retirement she ran a boarding home in Gardiner for 17 years, where she still lives.

Her children are Kenneth Skidgel of Windsor, Sheldon Skidgel of Randolph, Viola Preo of Windsor and Wendell Skidgel of Richmond, and the late William Skidgel, Lewis Skidgel and Betty Habib.

Skidgel enjoys cooking, baking, flowers, church and cats. She still loves to go out dancing and is very family oriented. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
