AUBURN — Aaron Schmitz’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted St. Dominic to a 2-0 win against Withrop in Western Maine Class C semifinal tournament baseball action Saturday. St. Dominic (16-2) scored another run on a passed ball.

Zak Johnson struck out eight and allowed just three hits to earn the victory. He didn’t issue a walk.

Jared Hanson, Dakota Carter and Zach Steele had the lone hits for Winthrop (13-4). Hanson struck out two and allowed three hits. He walked five.

Eastern Class A

Oxford Hills 11, Cony 6: The top-seeded Vikings scored eight runs over the first three inniings en route to the semifinal win in South Paris.

Oxford Hills starter Dylan Rice was knocked out in the first inning after taking a line drive off his forearm. The Rams got to reliever Riley Chickering for a pair of runs in the second inning and three in the third but Garret Fillebrown pitched three shutout innings and fanned five to seal the win.

Jordan Croteau singled and tripled for the Vikings while Matt Beauschaine had three singles. Tayler Carrier had a pair of hits and an RBI for Cony while Charlie Hallak added an RBI single.

Oxford Hills (16-2) plays Messalonskee in the regional final while No. 4 Cony finishes at 12-6.

Boys lacrosse

Eastern Class A

No. 1 Brunswick 12, No. 5 Messalonskee 9: Messalonskee jumped out to a 3-1 lead but then watched Brunswick take control of the game late in the half. The top-seeded Dragons (12-1) closed the half on a 6-1 run to take a 7-4 lead. They then held on late to advance to the Eastern A title game.

Messalonskee finished 9-5.

Track and field

Waterville senior Nick Danner finished second in the javelin at the New England track and field championships at Veterans Stadium.

Danner threw the javelin 187 feet, 2 inches. He was runnerup to Tony White, of Longmeadow, Mass., who threw it 187-11.

Danner led a strong Maine contingent at the meet.

Jade Canak of Erskine finished fourth in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 37-0.25. The jump was nearly two inches more than her previous best score. Pearl Abiti of Colchester High School in Vermont won the event with a leap of 37-4.75.

Lake Region sophomore Kate Hall won the 100-meter dash in 11.69 seconds. She was also second in the long jump (19-0.75).

Gray-New Gloucester junior Will Shafer was fourth in the 1,600 (4:18.17) while Isaiah Harris of Lewiston was second in the 800 (1:53.35).

Waterville senior Devin Burgess cleared 13-9 to finish seventh in the pole vault. Cony senior Lindsey Folsom was 11th (10-9).
