Gov. Paul LePage has considered defunding Maine’s school laptop program during years when children learn the fastest.
Most jobs now require computer proficiency. Currently there are not enough applicants for skilled jobs to fill the hiring potential of employers in Maine.
Many families cannot afford a laptop computer. Hence their children would fall behind their peers in employment and in taxable incomes, a long-term loss for the state of Maine.
