PORTLAND — Bishop Richard Malone is ordaining three Maine men as deacons on their road to becoming Catholic priests.

Malone is designating the three as transitional deacons during a ceremony Sunday at Portland’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

If all goes to plan, the three will be ordained as priests next spring. They are 25, 29 and 50 years old, and are natives of Frenchville, Lewiston and Fairfield.

Maine’s Catholic diocese currently has 181 priests.
