ELLSWORTH — A Deer Isle woman facing a manslaughter charge for allegedly running over her boyfriend during a drunken argument may be close to a plea deal with prosecutors.
Kimberly Phelan was in Hancock County Superior Court on Thursday.
WABI-TV reports that Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett told the judge her office and the 29-year-old Phelan’s defense attorney are working out a deal and hope to have something soon.
Authorities say Phelan and 31-year-old Andrew Ray were driving home in the early morning hours last Sept. 15 after a night of drinking when they stopped in Blue Hill to smoke marijuana.
Police say they had an argument and when Phelan put the vehicle in reverse she ran over Ray. He later died at a hospital.
Phelan is free on bail.
