PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Police in Portsmouth, N.H., are investigating the discovery of four teeth on Peirce Island, an area that police searched last year for the body of a University of New Hampshire student.

The Portsmouth Herald reports police have not connected the discovery of the teeth with the Oct. 9 disappearance of 19-year-old Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott of Westborough, Mass. Investigators believe her body had been dumped on or around Peirce Island by Seth Mazzaglia, who’s been charged with killing Marriott during an attempted sexual assault. Her body has not been recovered.

Police said they were notified about the teeth Saturday night. A Somersworth resident said he and his family found four teeth “that appear to be human.”

Police Chief Stephen DuBois said further review would be sought be a forensics expert.
