Paddle the Heart of the Sheepscot Watershed from Alna Head Tide to Sheepscot Village with SVCA as your guide is set for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7. The event is co-hosted by Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association and the Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance.
This stretch of river winds through some of the most beautiful wild stretches of the Sheepscot River including the SVCA’s Bass Falls Preserve. The trip is timed to take advantage of the outgoing tide so the paddle should be relatively easy. There is also a limit of 30 participants and registration is required by contacting SVCA at svca@sheep scot.org or 586-5616.
Participants need their own boats, life jackets, water and a snack or lunch.
Also, an Aug. 17 hike on Hogback Mountain in Montville on the edge of the Sheepscot Watershed is planned. This hike culminates on the summit (1,115 feet) with views often all the way to Penobscot Bay. The trails are part of a 28-mile network jointly managed by SWLA and the Georges River Land Trust. The hike will be led by Buck O’Herin from SWLA and is limited to 25 participants. Please contact the SVCA to register.
