BENTON — Madison Morin, 10, has been selected by Discovery Girls magazine to participate in a four-day camp, during which she will attend photo shoots and work with editors to brainstorm ideas for the magazine.

Madison is the only girl chosen from the state of Maine. Thousands of applications from the USA and Canada were submitted and only 36 girls nationwide were selected. The application process required Madison to submit 11 essay questions with topics ranging from bullying to body image, according to a news release.

The Discovery Girls Summit will take place July 23-26 in the San Francisco Bay area. Madison will be accompanied by a parent, and is seeking sponsors to cover transportation. Discovery Girls magazine reaches a readership of more than 1 million, and is aimed at preteen girls with an emphasis on positive choices and lifestyles.
