CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A 58-year-old Florida woman was rescued this afternoon from the east side of Sugarloaf Mountain after she was injured hiking and couldn’t walk down the mountain.

The woman was hiking with her husband on the Burnt Mountain Trail, according to Carrabassett Valley Communications dispatcher Tyler Richard.

Richard said off-duty members of the mountain’s snowmaking department were in the area, heard the radio broadcasts for assistance and responded on their all-terrain vehicles.

The woman suffered a knee injury, he said.

“They were able to get up there and get her down with her husband,” Richard said about 6:30 p.m. “They’re down now and we’re all set at this point.”

He said the trail head is off Mountainside Road. The woman was not hospitalized and her name was not released.
