AUBURN — A man wanted in connection with the July Fourth shooting of a rookie New York City police officer has been captured in Maine.

Federal, Maine and New York law enforcement authorities apprehended Michael Faison in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Auburn on Wednesday.

The Sun Journal reports that the 21-year-old Faison was held at the Androscoggin County Jail on a fugitive charge, pending extradition to New York.

It could not be determined whether he has a lawyer.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly previously said Officer Jamil Sarwar was in Brooklyn late on the holiday responding to reports of a shooting at a housing project when he was shot in the leg. He was hospitalized and survived.
