Sen. Susan Collins had a chance to stand with most of the people in Maine and the country who want to see all genetically modified food labeled, but she voted against it.
She voted against the Sanders amendment that would have protected states’ rights to choose for themselves to label all foods containing genetically modified organisms.
Monsanto is just drooling for federal legislation that would outlaw states’ rights to act for themselves in GMO labeling. Why is Collins helping it?
I think the senator should look at the difference between people’s free choice to know what is in their food — the most basic right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — and the forced corporate dictates of the chemical companies.
I hope Collins will act on the right side of history and support GMO labeling at the federal level.
