NEWTOWN, Conn. — Central Maine opened up the 15-year-old New En-gland Babe Ruth tournament with a bang Saturday, pounding out 22 hits en route to a 15-5 win over Pittsfield, Mass., at Fairfield Hills.

Central Maine led all the way and will play Braintree, Mass., at 9 a.m. today.

Jared Cunningham and Derek Bowen each had three hits and as many RBIs to lead Central Maine. Ben Frazee had three hits and two RBIs while J.T. Nutting also contributed with three hits and an RBI. Jacob Trask pitched four innings to earn the victory while Frazee closed it out.

Pittsfield, Mass., will play New Hampshire in an elimination game at 3 p.m. today.

Junior Legion

Fairfield Post #14 will play Bruno’s at 11 a.m. today in the state championship tournament at Hadlock Field.

The teams were scheduled to meet Saturday but rain wiped out the slate Friday, which pushed everything back a day.

Should Fairfield Post #14 win, it will then play again at 2 p.m.
