GARDINER — Bertha Warren recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living.

Guests included Warren’s nephew, Warren Davis of Massachusetts, her nurse, and all her friends and the staff at Arbor Terrace. She received many cards, gifts and flowers, a letter from Willard Scott and a card from the President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama.

Warren was born in Bangor on July 26, 1913. When she was young, she was an avid skier and during the ski season would go downhill skiing every weekend in Maine and New Hampshire. She has always enjoyed being outdoors. She and her older sister used to travel many places together.

Warren is a graduate of Columbia University. She was trained to be a teacher and worked in a secretarial position at a paper mill.

Warren enjoys having a newspaper read to her daily, exercising and lifting hand weights, playing Bingo, dice games, any kind of music, writing letters and getting fresh air. She enjoys ham and steak and her favorite treat is a box of chocolate.
