AUGUSTA — A city woman has been charged with stabbing her boyfriend during a fight on Washington Street Wednesday evening.

Constance Jean Marie Mason, 19, was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing her 58-year-old boyfriend, said Augusta Police Lt. Christopher Massey. Mason was being held without bail  at the Kennebec County jail Thursday.

Police are withholding the name of the boyfriend during the investigation.

Massey said Mason’s infant child is in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Police were called to Washington Street around 11:37 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a domestic dispute, Massey said. When they arrived they found a man had been stabbed in the back with a steak knife. Massey wasn’t sure how many times the man had been stabbed.

The man was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with what Massey described as life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
