PORTLAND — About 200 Maine National Guard soldiers are ready to deploy to Afghanistan.

Sen. Susan Collins and other dignitaries joined soldiers and families on Saturday for a send-off ceremony at the Portland Expo.

The Guard members are from the 133rd Engineer Battalion and the 1035th Engineer Detachment.

They include a mother and son, Spc. Andrew Parker and Spc. Holly Parker, from Unity. Sgt. 1st Class Randal Parker, father and husband, is sitting this deployment out.
