A California man and Maine native will become the new principal of G.D. Cushing and Academy Hill schools in Wilton starting this fall.

Keith Acedo, of Barstow, Calif., was approved as the new principal Tuesday evening by the Mt. Blue School Board, said Superintendent Tom Ward.

He was hired on a two-year contract for $73,404 a year plus benefits.

Ward said Acedo has 20 years of experience in administration, including the last six years as principal of Montara Elementary School in Barstow.

Acedo is a graduate of Erskine Academy in China. He has relatives in Wilton, and he and his wife are interested in moving back to the area, Ward said.

Ward said the two schools’ current principal, Darlene Paine, will be transferring to the principal position at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon.
