OAKLAND — The resignation of an Oakland budget committee member has created an opportunity for a resident to help direct how local tax dollars are spent.
Those who are interested in the position have until Friday, Sept. 6, to contact Town Manager Peter Nielsen.
Nielsen said Dennis McClellan, a member of the Budget and Advisory Committee, has moved to Sidney, leaving a vacancy on the committee.
Nielsen said the committee plays a vital role in shaping the town’s budget, which is $4.2 million this year.
The committee reviews a budget that has been prepared by the Town Council and makes recommendations to voters at the annual Town Meeting in May.
“I give the committee an awful lot of credit for making sure the process is interesting and thorough,” Nielsen said. “They help to shape our budget and help to reflect the values of the community.”
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the council is scheduled to review the pool of candidates and make an appointment to fill the open slot.
