PITTSFIELD — Sebsticook Valley Federal Credit Union will hold its 5th annual 5K run/walk Sunday, Sept. 15. All proceeds will go to the Ending Hunger in Maine Campaign.

SVFCU has raised more than $17,000 for this cause from events such as the 5k Run/Walk. The proceeds have been given to food pantries and other end hunger initiatives and organizations in our communities, such as snack pack programs in the schools to help children and a local farm share program that helps the elderly.

The race will start at the entrance to the Pittsfield Industrial Park, proceed down Somerset Avenue, loop around Birchwood Terrace (down Arbor Lane, left onto Hamilton Drive), to Hartland Avenue, down Sebasticook Street, to Main Street, then onto Somerset Avenue to the finish line back at the credit union. This is a relatively flat and moderately fast course.

The entry fee is $15 if received by Sept. 7 or $20 after Sept. 7. With the entry fee, participants will receive a T-shirt.

Those who wish can find sponsors for the run/walk by getting pledges. With $20 in pledges, participants will receive a T-shirt; with $50 in pledges, they will also get an insulated grocery bag. At $100 in pledges a stainless steel water bottle in addition to the T-shirt and grocery bag, and $150 and above in pledges, participants will also receive a SVFCU 60th anniversary folding chair.

In conjunction with the 5k Run/Walk, there will be a food drive to benefit local food pantries. For every non-perishable food item donated participants will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Hannaford gift card.
