BEVERLY, Mass. — Michael Hand had a goal and an assist as Thomas College men’s soccer defeated Purchase, 3-0, in the consolation match of the Gull Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Tre Ming and Maranacook grad Dakota Duplissie also scored for Thomas (1-1). Hand and Duplissie have each scored a pair of goals already this season. Mikkail Crockwell made five saves for the shutout.

Esteban Aguilar had two saves for Purchase (0-2).

Field hockey

Thomas 3, Nichols 2: Messalonskee grad Miranda Tinsman had a goal and an assist as the Terriers earned the win in their season opener, in Dudley, Mass.

Messalonskee grad Lauren Hachey and Winslow grad Michelle Greene also scored for Thomas.

Waterville grad Jasmine Bishop had six saves in goal for the win.

Women’s soccer

SUNY Maritime 2, Thomas 1: Jorrie Trenkamp scored twice in the second half as Thomas lost a close one in Gorham.

Monmouth grad Kristi Hilton gave Thomas (0-2-0) the lead in the first half. Elizabeth Goodall assisted on the goal. Kate Thibodeau and Pagie Leary combined for eight saves for the Terriers.

Also Saturday: Messalonskee graduate Katie Bernatchez started and scored the game’s first goal as No. 16 Boston University field hockey defeated Ohio. … Skowhegan grad Rebecca Pratt had a goal as the University of Southern Maine field hockey defeated Wheaton, 3-0, to win the USM Invitational.
