WATERVILLE — The 86-year-old Benton man who spent two stormy, wet days and nights outdoors continues to recuperate.
When Arthur Wakeman was found in the woods near his home Friday morning, he was laying on his back the ground, soaking wet, and conscious but not responsive, according to searchers at the scene.

He was rushed to Waterville’s Inland Hospital, where spokeswoman Sara Dyer said in a statement Monday afternoon his condition continues to improve.
“His family says they are happy with the gains he is making every day,” Dyer said. “They also want the community to know they appreciate everyone’s concern.”
The search for Wakeman began on Wednesday afternoon and concentrated on the area immediately surrounding his home on East Benton Road.
Storms, hail, and temperatures in the low 50s Thursday night stoked concerns about Wakeman’s health.
By Friday morning, when Wakeman was found alive 1.2 miles from his home, the search party had grown to about 65 people.
Wakeman was found by Deborah Palman, president of the Maine Association of Search and Rescue, and her German shepherd, Quinn.
