SKOWHEGAN — A Skowhegan woman spent the day in the hospital after she was struck by a car while crossing Madison Avenue this morning.

Michaelena Stone, 19, was flown by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center after the accident, which occurred when she was trying to cross the intersection near Cumberland Farms, police officer Josh King said. She was released from the hospital around 4 p.m. Details of her injuries were not available.

Stone was crossing from Pleasant Street to High Street when she was struck by a southbound 2010 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Stephen Plourde, 52, of Skowhegan, according to King.

King said she was hit by the front passenger side of the car and she struck the windshield.

Plourde was not injured, he said.

The accident was reported at 6:57 a.m., during a heavy traffic time, he said.

King said he did not expect a state police accident reconstruction report to be issued until the end of next week.

He said one of the things under investigation was wehter Plourde had a green light.

“That’s something we’re trying to get a solid stance on — what was going on as far as the lights go,” King said.

Stone, who was conscious at the scene, was taken by Redington-Fairview General Hospital Emergency Medical Services to the hospital and then transferred to Bangor by LifeFlight, he said.

By afternoon, no charges had been filed in the accident.
