AUGUSTA — Regional and national employers will be at a job fair geared toward veterans and military personnel held at the Augusta State Armory next week.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, along with local and other national partners, is hosting the 2013 Hiring Our Heroes at the Western Avenue armory from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 8.

A workshop on resume writing, tips for navigating hiring fairs, military-skill translation and interviewing will be held at 9 a.m. To register, visit augusta-oct8-hohworks-eorg.eventbrite.com.

“Our current and former military personnel have incredible skills they can offer Maine businesses,” Gov. Paul LePage said in a Maine Department of Labor news release sent today. “This job fair is an excellent opportunity for businesses to hire a talented person while thanking him or her for serving our country with honor.”

Job seekers should bring a resume and be prepared to have interview-like conversations with employers, according to the release. Attendees also should be dressed for an interview.

Participating employers include Amtrak, AutoZone, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Cianbro, Department of Veterans Affairs, FedEx Ground, General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works, JobsinME.com, LJ3 Communications, SEI/Aaron’s, Inc., Hertz, Tradesmen International, U.S. Postal Service, New Balance, T-Mobile and Walgreens.
