Pittston woman hurt in turnpike crash
LITCHFIELD — A Pittston woman was taken by ambulance to a Lewiston hospital Wednesday after her 2012 Ford Focus hit a guardrail head-on in the southbound lane of the Maine Turnpike near mile marker 94 at about 5 p.m.
The accident left debris in the southbound travel lane and shoulder and the lanes were closed to traffic for about 40 minutes.
Trooper Lee Vanadestine, who investigated the crash, said Thursday that Helen Raymond, 65, apparently had a diabetic reaction just before the accident.
He said she was treated for minor injuries at the Central Maine Medical Center.
The crash caused extensive damage to the guardrail, Vanadestine said, adding that Maine Turnpike Authority crews were doing repairs Thursday morning.
