Alleged death threat results in arrest

AUGUSTA — A West Gardiner man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly holding a knife to the throat of his fiancee and threatening to kill her.

Joshua A. Burgess, 27, was charged with domestic-violence assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic-violence terrorizing.

Police were called by Burgess’s grandmother, whom the couple had been visiting at her Windsor home earlier in the day. The grandmother said the couple drove away after she asked them to leave because they were arguing.

Burgess’ fiancee later told police he “flung her around the car” and threatened to kill her until she was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house, according to an affidavit by Cpl. G.J. Neagle III of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies said Burgess was intoxicated but cooperative when they found him, and he denied threatening the 27-year-old woman.

A judge on Wednesday set bail for Burgess at $2,000 cash or $10,000 worth of property.

Bail conditions require Burgess to live in Orono and prohibit him from being in Windsor and Whitefield and from contact with the fiancee.
