ORONO — Former Gardiner Area High School standout Ray Jean has been hired as a volunteer goaltending coach at the University of Maine, men’s head ice hockey coach Red Gendron announced Wednesday.

Jean played for the Black Bears from 2000-2004 and for the past 10 years has run his own goaltending school,

“I am very excited and happy to be back at the University of Maine,” Jean in a press release. “To be able to work with Coach Gendron, the Maine team and goalies is a great honor and I am looking forward to it.”

Jean runs Own the Crease goaltending school with his brothers Ryan and Cody, teaching goaltenders to communicate effectively and complement physical and mental strengths. He has also worked with the the University of Southern Maine hockey program.

Jean finished his career at Bentley where he played in 54 games and compiled a record of 12-13-4 in 2006-07. Following graduation Jean played in the American Hockey League with the Portland Pirates and the Wilkes-Bare Scranton Penguins. He also played in the Eastern Hockey League and the Central Hockey League.

Husson field hockey player Sabrina Vaillancourt has been selected to play in the 2013 Front Rush/NFHCA Division III Senior Game.

Vaillancourt, a Nokomis Regional High School graduate, was one of only two representatives selected from the North Atlantic Conference and joins 60 senior from across the country to play in the game.

Vaillancourt leads Husson with 17 goals and 39 points this season. She is the program’s all-time leader in career points.

The game will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
