AUBURN — A Lewiston teenager has pleaded guilty to stabbing another man in a dispute over a couch where they both wanted to crash.

Eighteen-year-old Bryan Peabody pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges including criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, but avoided jail time.

The Sun Journal reports that a three-year prison term for the criminal threatening charge was suspended for two years of probation. He was sentenced to time served on a misdemeanor assault charge. A third, more serious assault charge, was dismissed.

Prosecutors say the stabbing occurred during a confrontation at a Mechanic Falls home in July 20 sparked by a dispute over who got the couch in an apartment where they were both staying.

Authorities say Peabody stabbed the victim seven times with a stiletto he carried.
