OAKLAND — A woman who has been jailed and fined for repeatedly calling 911 without a good reason was charged with the crime again this week.

In all, Roxane Marie Montgomery, 46, of Hussey Hill Road, has been charged with misuse of the Emergency 911 system, a misdemeanor, seven times since January 2012.

On Wednesday, about 1:45 p.m., Montgomery dialed 911 and put the phone down, creating an open line, according to Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert.

Police went to her residence and arrested her, charging her with misuse of E911. She appeared to be intoxicated at the time, Stubbert said.

She also was charged with violating a condition of release, stemming from an Oct. 30 incident in which Montgomery also was charged with dialing 911 and leaving an open line.

Stubbert said police are obligated to respond to such calls, because any one of them could be an actual emergency.

Stubbert said he didn’t know why Montgomery, who has also been charged with driving under the influence twice in recent years, repeats the behavior.

“Everybody has their own theory,” he said.

Court and police records show that Montgomery was charged with the same crime twice in January 2012. She was later sentenced in Waterville District Court to 10 days in jail.

In February, she was charged three more times on three separate days. In at least two of the cases, Stubbert said, Montgomery had received warnings for calling 911 earlier in the day, and that she was arrested only after repeating the behavior. In April, she was sentenced in Augusta District Court to serve 48 hours in jail and pay a $300 fine.

Twice in the past two years, Montgomery also has been sentenced for operating under the influence, most recently in February.
