I’m encouraged to see that area lawmakers are voting for Maine’s working families. Democratic Reps. Stanley Short Jr. of Pittsfield, Ann Dorney of Norridgewock, Karen Kusiak of Fairfield, Catherine Nadeau of Winslow and Henry Beck and Thomas Longstaff, both of Waterville, all received 100 percent ratings by the Maine State Employees Association in its 2013 Legislative Scorecard.

These legislators supported a state budget that protects the middle class from huge property tax hikes. They prevented a shutdown of state government. They fought for, and continue to fight for, quality, affordable health care for more Mainers. These legislators also support a living wage and collective bargaining rights.

Maine succeeds when its middle class thrives. We need more legislators like these to have our backs. See how every Maine legislator scored on seven votes tracked in the Scorecard at www.mseaseiu.org/bulletin/2013LegislativeScorecard.pdf.
