A driver who had been out shopping early on Black Friday apparently fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on Interstate 295 in Cumberland.
The driver of a 2002 Chevy Cavalier told police he fell asleep Friday about 8 a.m. and drove his car into the safety-cable barrier on the northbound side of the highway.
Caleb Castonguay, 18, and two other passengers had been shopping at Cabela’s in Scarborough, Maine State Police Trooper John Kyle said.
The car snapped one of the safety cables and drove under the other two, Kyle said.
No one was injured in the crash and traffic was minimal at the time, the trooper said.
