KITTERY POINT — A seven-member group from Maine and New Hampshire is delivering hundreds of pounds of donated harmonicas, jump ropes, dresses, medical supplies and other items to children in Haiti recovering from the 2010 earthquake.
The group recently spent a Sunday afternoon in the Kittery Point home of Ann Grinnell, packing supplies. It’s Grinnell’s fifth trip to Haiti; she’ll be joined by several other women and high school students. The group is leaving Dec. 4.
The Portsmouth Herald reported that Grinnell is a member of the Aquacise class run by fellow participant Valerie Fagin at the Portsmouth Indoor Pool. Over the past few years, members of the class have sponsored two children from Haiti using money from raffles and donations through a group called Partners in Development, in Ipswich, Mass.
Grinnell said she has found 33 people to sponsor children through the organization, many of them swimming clients. In the past, the indoor pool group has collected Barbie dolls and soccer balls for Grinnell to bring. Members also will assist at a clinic and at a construction site.
