Great story about the Red Barn (“Red Barn’s fundraising halted by AG,” Dec. 1).

I’ve been eating at the Red Barn and support Laura Benedict and her crew 100 percent. They give from the heart and soul.

Parts of the management of the state of Maine cause this stuff to happen. Where were they when the state was overpaying health care benefits to those who did not qualify? Especially when people at the top knew about it, did nothing and cost the taxpayers of this state tens of millions of dollars. Then we have a great business like the Red Barn (not just them, as the China Dine-ah and Rebecca’s also donated, as well as other businesses) that gives to those in need and asks for nothing in return.

Shame on the management of the state for letting this happen the way it did. Our Attorney General Janet Mills should have procedures in place to make sure something like this does not happen this way. And those who “complained” should be ashamed for not handling this differently.

This is not something new the Red Barn has been doing. Those folks have been donating to the needy for years It stinks all around.

That’s my two cents.
