BOSTON — One man is dead and a Boston police officer is nursing a gunshot wound after exchanging gunfire in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.

Boston police spokeswoman Nicole Grant said the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon. The incident began with officers talking to two men. One man pushed an officer and both men began to run, with one of the men opening fire on police.

Grant said a bullet hit an officer in the arm and police returned fire, killing one of the men.

Investigators are questioning the surviving suspect. The stricken officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

Police did not immediately release the names of the officer or those of the dead suspect and the one being questioned.

The shooting occurred near Geneva Avenue and Westville Street.
