HAMPDEN, Conn., — Jordan Samuels-Thomas scored with just over a minute remaining in regulation to lift the Quinnipiac men’s hockey team past UMaine 2-1 in a non-conference game Friday night at the TD Bank Sports Center.
The loss was the first in six games for Maine (10-7-2).
Quinnipiac (8-1-2), which played in the national championship game last season, jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kellen Jones converted his own rebound just 2:09 into the second period.
Devin Shore pulled Maine even at 1-1 when he scored a short-handed goal midway through the period.
Connor Leen had the assist.
Babson 3, Colby 2: Babson scored two goals in a span of 1:18 of the second period to go ahead for good in a win over the Mules.
Jon Mleczko and Michael Phillips scored about a minute apart early in the second period to help No. 7 Babson edge Colby in the championship game of the Salem State/Babson tournament.
The Beavers (11-2-0) trailed 2-0 before rallying for the victory.
Colin Reilly and EJ Rauseo, both freshmen forwards, gave Colby (5-4-2) a 2-0 lead with goals in the first period.
Sam Parker finished with 34 saves for Colby. while Jamie Murray had 25 for the Beavers.
Women’s hockey
Colby 6, New England College 1: Colby cruised to the non-conference victory thanks to a dominant second period. Colby (4-4-1) scored three goals to snap a 1-1 game and out-shot the Pilgrims (1-9-0) 25-4 in the period.
Katie McLaughlin, Kat Mackey, Lauren Guarente Jackie Tavella Nikki Donato and Jess Barkley all scored for Colby.
Colby goalie Brianne Wheeler had 19 saves to give her 2,211 in her career. Lauren Hopps and Kelly Metz combined for 37 saves for NEC.
