Icing could cause power outages in central Maine on Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The service issued a winter weather advisory for Kennebec and Androscoggin counties, along with parts of, Somerset, Waldo, Franklin and Oxford counties and parts of New Hampshire, effective at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasting through 10 a.m. Monday.
Forecasts say the region will see snow, sleet and freezing rain resulting in one inch of snow accumulation and a quarter-inch of ice. The icing could cause scattered power outages, the weather service said, especially in areas where ice remains on trees from the December ice storm. Southern Maine is expected to see less icing.
Temperatures were subzero on Thursday and Friday in Augusta and only reached a high of 12 degrees on Saturday before warming into the 20s on Sunday. Monday, it’s expected be rainy and 45 degrees before cooling back down into the teens on Tuesday.
